Three communication musts: brevity, levity AND personality!”
September 2016 latest news: I am excited to report that some of my ‘writing’ assignments involve another part of my brain that I enjoy using as much … that is, my data-crunching hemisphere! Sometimes all the words in the world cannot replace a well-presented infographic and this one, for a real estate magazine, is a good example. Give me a call if you want ideas to turn data into something that makes an issue come alive for your readers!

For my University of Sydney client, I was asked to conceive the best possible way to inspire delegates attending the University’s annual symposium devoted to Equity and Diversity issues. As I had already conducted many interviews with academics, I interspersed these profiles with other important career-advancing information for the attending delegates. Importantly, the design signalled both visually and content-wise that BOTH men and women were important for driving change on campus. Here is a PDF of the 54-page workbook with which each delegate was provided.

Josephine began her journalism career as a newspaper reporter in South Africa, covering crime and politics. She graduated to television where she reported the news, and later produced television for prime time.
In Australia, she was editor of a ‘Top 20′ title and more recently co-wrote a non-fiction top-seller, Monsoon Rains and Icicle Drops, which made the SMH best-seller list in 2006.
For Reader’s Digest, where she worked as a senior editor for four years, she wrote and edited hundreds of consumer articles in the inspiring ‘must-read’ style of the publication.
Today she edits books and blogs for clients, and produces creative, exciting content for social media on behalf of her clients.

I also like to “give back” and sometimes I use my writing skills for this purpose, sometimes I don’t. For six months in 2013, I wrote labrador newsletters for Guide Dogs NSW and loved driving all over NSW to meet these gorgeous pooches and their owners.

More recently, I am team leader in Newtown on Friday mornings with a small team washing laundry for the homeless. It’s great work, and we learn that everyone has a story to tell, and that surprising things can happen that lead people to have no roof over their head. website load speed test Regardless, they love their clean clothes after a wash!
And for many years, I penned communications pro bono for Mahboba’s Promise, a not-for-profit organisation run by inspiring Sydneysider Mahboba Rawi, OA, who I met after she was profiled on the ABC’s Australian Story. For her organisation, dedicated to uplifting widows and orphans in war-torn Afghanistan, I have conceived and edited countless newsletters and book publications to keep patrons abreast of the progress being made with donations. It is uplifting to make this contribution!
